AICP

The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the APA’s professional institute, providing recognized leadership nationwide in the certification of professional planners, ethics, professional development, planning education, and the standards of planning practice. Certification not only distinguishes you from other planning professionals but also demonstrates to others that the profession values competence and recognizes planners who have achieved a level of competence beyond the most basic level and stay current in their field.

For a step-by-step guide and more information on AICP certification please visit www.planning.org/certification.  If you have any questions, or are ready to begin preparing for an exam, please contact APA Delaware’s Professional Development Officer.  If you are a chapter member, we can offer you some financial assistance in preparing for the AICP and you may also qualify for a reduced examination fee.  We will also help you to study!

Certification Maintenance

AICP members and those with an ASC designation are required to comply with Certification Maintenance (CM) requirements which include 32 credit hours of training per two-year period. The Certification Maintenance program links certified planners to training opportunities that will keep them up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices.

A reminder for those folks in need of CM’s during the current grace period, you still have options to earn them.  As most know, the Chapter participates in the nationwide Planning Webcast Consortium that offers free CM-eligible webinars nearly every Friday.  Please take a look and register for upcoming events at: http://www.ohioplanning.org/aws/APAOH/pt/sp/development_webcast

The Chapter also offers a few free CM events and webinars.  Between the two sources, a member could accumulate sufficient CM’s for a reporting period!  APA and a few Consortium webinars, even ethics and law webinars, are available any time you have a free hour or two.

As always, if you need any assistance with Certification Maintenance or are interested in joining the ranks of the Certified, please contact the Delaware Chapter Professional Development Officer (PDO).
